Cong tells Speaker to come clean on work carried out in Goa Assembly Complex

Allege electrical work in Opp Leader’s chamber carried out without tender; demand file notings of renovation work

PANJIM: The opposition Congress party on Wednesday alleged that electrical work in the Opposition Leader’s chamber at Porvorim was carried out without tender and demanded to produce file notings.

Reacting to the Statement made by Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar alleging that Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao made a drama by holding press conference with lighted candles, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Amit Patkar dared the Speaker to keep in public domain all file notings of the renovation work carried out in the Goa Assembly Complex.

“I charge that the work in Opposition Leader’s chamber is undertaken without a tender. I reiterate the Congress Party’s charge that the projects and the works undertaken by the BJP government are with “Mission Total Commission” resulting in sub-standard and poor quality works,” said Patkar.

Patkar said that the government spent Rs 14.26 crores on repairs and renovations of Minsters chambers in the Ministers Block, Porvorim from March 2022 till January 2024. Recently, the painting work of the Goa Legislative Assembly was undertaken. Sadly, the orange colour had now turned into pale yellow.” He said hoping that the Speaker will seek explanation from the contractor.

Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar should perform his duties with responsibility. He should explain why the Goa Legislative Assembly Complex is still not made “Accessible and Disable Friendly” to Persons with Disabilities.

He should first put his house in order before levelling baseless allegations on the Leader of Opposition, Patkar said.
