Cong to contest Zilla polls on party line

PANJIM: Congress has decided to contest the Zilla Panchayat (ZP) elections on party symbol as it will popularise the symbol amongst the people besides helping the organisation to strengthen its network to face the assembly elections that will follow suit.
“Initially we were of the opinion to let some independent leader emerge at the zilla level but realised that it is not happening and this time we shall contest on party symbol,” Goa Congress Chief  Girish Chodankar said. Chodankar admitted that this would be a good opportunity for the party to assess its strength and focus on the weak spots so that he can convert those areas. However, the main reason to contest on party-line is that people are disgusted with the present government and they expect an alternative. “There is a lot of anger against the BJP government and that has to be tapped,” he said.
