Cong to continue protests to roll back fuel price hike

MARGAO: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee on Tuesday decided to continue with its protest to pressurise government at Centre to roll back extortion by Narendra Modi government by way of unprecedented hike in prices of petrol and diesel.

President Girish Chodankar said, “The BJP Government imposed excise duty of 820 per cent on diesel and 258 per cent on petrol. The local BJP government has levied Value Added Tax of 25 per cent on petrol and 22 per cent on diesel in the State.”

“In India, petrol and diesel is the most expensive when the same is sold in our neighbourhood countries at much cheaper rates.” 

Chodankar quoted the prices in Pakistan Rs 45.06, Sri Lanka Rs 55.57 while in Nepal the price is Rs 59.93 but in India petrol rate is over Rs 80 per litre.

“Congress protests to start from Wednesday with Block/Taluka level protests by Valpoi Block Congress at Valpoi and Sanguem Block Congress Committee at Sanguem,” informed Chodankar. 

He said, “It is our duty to raise people’s issues when the common man is burdened by the faulty policies of the Narendra Modi government.”

“The protests on electricity bills hike will also continue Taluka wise,” he added.
