Cong to mend bridges with ex-members

GPCC member to reach out to ex-Congressmen in all constituencies; Party to send leaders to listen to the people’s grievances

PANJIM: The Congress party has decided to salvage its lost base in several constituencies by inducting a Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) member, in each constituency who would liaison with former Congressmen, who felt ignored or neglected all this while, to get them back into the party fold.
Also, in an effort to listen to voters’ woes, the party is set to launch a programme wherein party leaders including MLAs, will travel using public transport across constituencies.
GPCC, under new president Girish Chodankar held its first meeting on Friday, wherein it resolved to make the party a social face across the State.
Addressing media persons post meeting, Chodankar said attempts are being made to revamp the party organisation thereby strengthening its base. “We will re-constitute the block committees. Also one PCC member will be given charge of each constituency, wherein he has to reach out to senior and erstwhile Congress leaders, who are hurt by being ignored, to bring them back to the party. We will have to get those leaders back to us,” he said.
Chodankar was speaking in presence of Leader of the Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar, senior MLA Digambar Kamat, MLA Wilfred D’Sa and senior leader Ramakant Khalap.
The party has also decided to launch a programme ‘Jana Gana Mana- Namanttuka Goenkara’, which will listen to the grievances and demands of the people. “All our leaders, including MLAs, will travel in public transport like bus, taxi, auto rickshaw, pilot, etc, visit the constituency, talk to people, listen to their problems and demands. It is basically an attempt to get connected to the people,” Chodankar said.
The party will also launch a fresh membership drive soon.
