PANJIM: The Congress Legislative Party (CLP) on Thursday resolved to work out floor coordination with all the Opposition parties and MLAs to corner the government on the crucial issues affecting the State, during the five-day long Budget session, beginning from February 3.
Congress, Goa Forward Party, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte make for the Opposition benches on the floor of the House.
Issues such as Mhadei river water diversion, Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), deteriorating law and order situation and poor financial management would be raised during the session.
Addressing media persons after the meeting, Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat said he would be meeting leaders from GFP, MGP and Khaunte to work out floor coordination for the upcoming session.
“CLP discussed various issues concerning the State. Mhadei, CAA, law and order situation, bad finances which we will raise on the Floor of the House,” he said.
The former chief minister said that the Congress would coordinate with all opposition MLAs including an Independent to have a floor management. “I will be meeting them during the weekend,” he said.
“My role as Leader of Opposition will be to ensure that the Opposition is united on the serious issues concerning the State. We will jointly work out the strategies,” Kamat said.
The Budget session of the Assembly will be held from February 3 to February 7 and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant would present the budget on February 6.
Speaking on CAA, Kamat said the party is yet to decide whether to raise CAA issue through ‘Calling Attention Motion’ or any kind of resolution.
Senior Congress leader Pratapsingh Rane has criticized the Central government for failing to respect Indian Constitution by enacting law like CAA.
