Cong urges CM to scrap Sunburn, demands arrest of organisers

PANJIM: Following death of two tourists, outside the Sunburn Music Festival venue, Congress has urged Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to immediately scrap the electronic dance music festival (EDM) and to book and arrest the organisers, for the incident.

Two Andhra Pradesh-based tourists who had arrived to attend Sunburn Festival died outside the venue on Friday afternoon. The cause of the death is still not known.

In a letter to Chief Minister, Goa Pradesh Youth Congress (GPYC) president Varad Mardolkar has demanded that considering the present circumstances, the organisers of Sunburn that is Percept, be booked and arrested immediately.

“We demand immediate withdrawal of permission granted to Sunburn, which will be held till December 29, for various illegalities at the venue,” he said.

Mardolkar further demanded that outsiders who are organising such music parties, only to promote drugs, should be banned and Sunburn organisers should be blacklisted from hosting any event in Goa.

“Yesterday’s incident again exposed the organisers of Sunburn Festival and it is open secret that all types of drugs were easily available and were openly sold at the venue,” the youth leader said.

He pointed out that death of two Andhra Pradesh tourists at EDM is not the first incident but in 2009 a Bangalore girl had died of drug overdose and another death was reported in 2014 due to same reason.

“The EDM festival instead of bringing good reputation to Goa brings controversies and bad name. EDM organisers are not concerned about the evil of drugs,” Mardolkar said.

Further, while addressing a press conference, Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee president Adv Pratima Coutinho demanded resignation of State Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar.
