PANJIM: The opposition Congress on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar demanding disqualification of newly-inducted Minister Aleixo Sequeira.
Speaking to reporters after submitting the memorandum, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Amit Patkar questioned the appointment of Nuvem MLA Aleixo Sequeira as a Cabinet Minister, when a disqualification petition is pending against him.
“There is a complaint against the minister and the matter is sub-judice. There is already disqualification filed against those MLAs who defected to the BJP and a decision on that is still pending. We do not know whether they have been disqualified or not,” he said.
“First of all the Speaker should take a decision over the disqualification petition then any further step should be taken. If the decision is in our favour then all the 8 MLAs will have to go home and if it is not, then we will approach the higher court. On record they (BJP leaders) are saying that there was a commitment. It means the defection was pre-planned and those who voted for the eight former Congress MLAs have been ditched,” Patkar said.
