PANJIM: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has demanded that two important posts at State Information Commission (SIC) and State Police Complaints Authority (SPCA) be filled without further delay, as it charged the government with “systematically destroying” such institutions.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, GPCC Media Convenor Trajano D’Mello stated that the posts of State Chief Information Commissioner and Chairperson of SPCA is lying vacant for a considerable long time to which government is heeding no attention.
“The government is ‘systematically destroying’ institutions that protect/defend/uphold democratic values which expose subtle suppression of these values. These two postings could have very well been extended, post retirement, as it is the public that suffer the consequences of being unable to approach the institutions directly with their grievances and have to seek court orders to sort out the same,” he said.
A government circular had directed the SIC to take care of the administrative affairs of the State Chief Information Commissioner which fell vacant few months ago whereas the post of SPCA Chairperson is vacant since mid April.
“We demand that these posts be filled in with appropriate personnel to avoid harassment/inconvenience to the public,” he demanded.
D’Mello also took a pot shot at the government for passing the Budget and important Bills in the Goa Legislative Assembly on Monday, without any discussion.
