PANJIM: Left with just five MLAs, the Congress is struggling to elect its Leader of Opposition as the Monsoon Session begins on Monday.
It may be recalled that on Wednesday, 10 Congress legislators switched to the BJP. Since then, the party has failed to elect its leader. When contacted, Congress Goa desk in-charge Dr Chella Kumar said no decision has been taken as yet. “MLAs have been asked to decide amongst themselves. Before the session starts there will be an announcement,” he said. Chella Kumar said a meeting was scheduled today (Sunday) but Lourenco did not attend. “Rane and Luizinho did not want to take the responsibility. A secret ballot was held today,” he said. When contacted, Lourenco and Kamat confirmed that Chella Kumar had on Saturday held one-on-one meeting with the MLAs with regards to leader of Opposition. “However, till now we have not been informed about our leader,” both the legislators said.
Lourenco and Kamat are the front-runners for the post.
