MARGAO: On Saturday, the Congress party demanded that the Election Commission investigate the alleged misuse of government machinery and resources for the election campaign of BJP candidates.
They stressed the importance of fair elections and urged for a thorough inquiry into any potential violations, to uphold the integrity of the democratic process.
Margao Congress leader Savio Coutinho alleged that workers of BJP candidates were distributing material printed by the Department of Information and Publicity, which he deemed illegal and in need of urgent attention from the election authorities. He stressed the importance of upholding electoral laws and preventing any unfair advantage gained through the misuse of government resources.
Displaying a booklet printed by the Department of Information and publicity, Coutinho questioned “How can funds from the public exchequer be used for election campaigns?” he questioned.
“BJP leaders might wrongly assume the public is indifferent to the misuse of tax money due to their substantial majority. However, the ruling party will soon recognise the gravity of the situation when they witness the consequences during the elections,” said Coutinho.
