PANJIM: Congress on Monday finally announced their candidates for the two Lok Sabha constituencies in Goa. Girish Chodankar will contest in North Goa, while Francisco Sardinha will be the nominee in South Goa.
In a statement, All India Congress Committee’s central election committee announced the two names after days of deliberations.
Sources said that while Chodankar’s named had been finalised earlier, the delay in the announcement was due to the South Goa seat. In the South, Sardinha and Goa Mahila Congress president Pratima Coutinho were the front-runners and the Congress high command had to resort to seeking opinion of its workers through the Shakti app.
Meanwhile, Congress workers are waiting eagerly for the announcement of the candidates for the three Assembly constituencies going for by-polls on April 23.
Sources in the party said that while Mahadev Naik and Sudhir Kandolkar who joined the party after quitting BJP are the probable candidates for Shiroda and Mapusa respectively. Babi Bagkar could be the party’s Mandrem candidate.
