PANJIM: The Congress in Goa has condemned the BJP Union government’s plans for a nation-wide ban on cow slaughter arguing that the government is attempting to cut the food chain of the minority community.
“The government is trying to cut the food chain of the minority community. The ban will also affect the (livelihood of) traders,” the party’s State General Secretary Agnelo Fernandes told a press briefing on Monday. He further alleged that the attempt is to drive out the minority communities from India in the wake of RSS’ appeal in January to turn the country into a Hindu nation.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh Sunday proposed a ban on cow slaughter all over the country by evolving a consensus. “Cow slaughter cannot be accepted in this country. We will make all-out efforts to ban slaughter of cows and will also try hard to have a consensus for this purpose,” Singh told national media during a gathering on Sunday.
The Congressman also pointed out contradictions of the BJP-led government’s views on the issue, claiming that in Goa, the ruling BJP is making all out efforts to come out of the beef crisis.
“The government should come out clean on all these issues,” Fernandes demanded, condemning the illegal slaughter of animals.
