MAPUSA: The Congress has blasted the BJP-led government for celebrating the Opinion Poll Day since “It has gone against the public opinion and mandate during the last assembly elections.”
Addressing a celebration on Opinion Poll Day at Mapusa, All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary Girish Chodankar said, “The BJP-led government has no right to celebrate Opinion Poll Day since they have gone against the public opinion and mandate during the last assembly elections.”
Chodankar said, “It is an achievement for the Congress that BJP government celebrated Opinion Poll Day, because it was a part of Congress manifesto for last assembly elections. This point was not mentioned in the BJP election manifesto. This government has implemented the promise that was given by the Congress that this day will be declared as ‘Asmitai Day’.”
Chodankar said that the public opinion and public mandate during the last assembly election was against the BJP, but since the saffron party failed to respect same, it has no right to celebrate the Opinion Poll Day.
“The public opinion is against coal; the public opinion is against casino. This government should first remove these two from Goa and only then it can celebrate the Opinion Poll day,” Chodankar added.
On the occasion, Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginald Lourenco said, “Similar to the unity that was shown on Opinion Poll Day, it is time to show the same unity to solve two major issues — Mhadei water diversion and Coal.”
“This government is all set to sell Mhadei for its political benefits and the bridges that are coming up in Goa are not the love which Parrikar have towards Goa but it’s for the same coal business. If people do not unite and fight against them thnn this government is all set to destroy Goa and Goenkarponn,” he added.
Others present on the occasion were Leader of the Opposition Babu Kavlekar, former chief minister Pratapsing Rane, former LS MP Shantaram Naik and others.
