PANJIM: The Congress has urged State government to implement unemployment dole of Rs 3,000- Rs 4,000 per youth, as promised by BJP in its election manifesto, to tide over the COVID crisis.
Addressing media persons, Congress spokesperson Trajano D’Mello demanded that government should revisit its State Budget 2020-21 make budgetary provisions and start the allowance payment from the month of August, in view of current COVID pandemic.
He recalled that BJP in its Goa Vision Document 2012-17 election manifesto, had promised that an allowance of Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000 per month under the ‘Minimum Employment Assurance Scheme’.
“Though they failed to keep up to their promise so far, this would be an opportune time to give out an allowance to unemployed youth and fulfil the long forgotten promise,” D’Mello said.
The Congress leader said in the current pandemic, which has created tremendous psychological and economical impact on the youth, they see a bleak future. He said that many youth have lost their jobs and there is no hope or vision presented to the youth by the government.
