Congress candidates’ names for 7-8 seats likely to be out today

PANJIM: The Central Election Committee (CEC) of the Congress held its first round of virtual meeting on Wednesday to finalise first list of candidates for the ensuing Goa Assembly elections due in February next year.

According to Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar, the CEC meeting was held in virtual mode and was chaired by CEC chairperson and AICC interim president Sonia Gandhi.

All the CEC members namely Rahul Gandhi, P Chidambaram, A K Antony, Ambika Soni, Mukul Wasnik, Mohsina Kidwai, K C Venugopal, Dinesh Rao, screening committee chairperson Rajani Patil and members, Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat attended the meeting. 

Chodankar said that the in the first round meeting, names of probable candidates for some of the constituencies were discussed and finalised candidates for seven to eight constituency.

The list of these seven to eight candidates is likely to be announced by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Thursday, he said adding that the party had decided to declare the names of candidates before the poll date so that they get adequate time for campaigning.
