PANJIM: In a scathing attack on Goa Forward Party president Vijai Sardesai for his ‘weaponise the youth’ statement, Congress accused the Deputy Chief Minister of sowing seeds of hatred and militancy and hopelessness.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) media convenor Trajano D’Mello said the statement had come from the government, which means that the government is saying it will weaponise the youth.
“He is sowing seeds of hatred, seeds of militancy and seeds of hopelessness and he is showing that the only way to achieve is violence. Have we ever heard of a government encouraging violence and violence in the name of Goenkarponn”, he stated.
Stating that Goenkarponn is about peace, love and understanding through dialogue, he added, “This exposes the frustration of the government and wants to gives the arms. If the law enforcing machinery gives you arms then who will control it?”
It maybe recalled that Vijai had made the statement during the inauguration of GFP’s new premises. He was speaking on the domicile issue and had stated that if the government has made a mistake, he will back the Goa Youth Forward totally. “If need be we will weaponise them (Youth Forward) to see that Goemkarponn is protected. We are ready to go back on roads to protect Goemkarponn and we need support of all Goans,” he had said.
Stating that Congress brought the domicile law, Trajano said that there are democratic means to settle issues. “This is not Goenkarponn. Fotingponn will not survive and people of Goa cannot be fooled all the time”, he stated.
He further said, “When you say violence is the only means to achieve the end then what are you training the youth to? The youth are already frustrated due to no jobs. And the ruling party says it will sponsor the youth to destroy. The youth and their families are shocked. The silence of the government shows its consent to what has been said.”
