PANJIM: Congress on Saturday alleged that the FIR against Opposition Leader Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar, and the raids at his premises in connection with the disproportionate assets case, are politically motivated and malicious with ulterior motive.
Addressing media persons hours after the FIR was lodged, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Shantaram Naik alleged that this is the modus operandi adopted by BJP to threaten Congress MLAs compelling them to join the ruling dispensation.
“The FIR against Kavlekar and the raids carried out at his premises are politically motivated and malicious and the same is being carried out with ulterior motive of compelling Congress MLAs to join BJP,” Naik charged.
He said the manner in which the BJP-led coalition government was formed makes Congress suspect there is an ulterior motive behind the raids. “An atmosphere is sort to be created by BJP so that Congress MLAs are forced to leave the party and join BJP, thereby strengthening the government, which is shaky,” the former Rajya Sabha MP said.
He assured that Kavlekar will fully cooperate with the investigation, as he has been doing since 2010. “Kavlekar has always being cooperative in the investigation and at no stage has he refused giving any information to the investigating agency,” Naik said.
