Congress demands five-day Assembly session

Seeks answers to questions on government action plan to fight COVID-19 pandemic

MARGAO The Congress Legislative Party (CLP) on Thursday demanded that a 5-day Assembly session be called to ensure that the Opposition gets the answers to the questions on the Government’s action plan to fight COVID-19 pandemic.

The CLP meeting today was attended by Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, MLAs Ravi Naik, Pratapsingh Rane, Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco and Luizinho Faleiro.

Former speaker Pratapsingh Rane said, “The Government needs to call an Assembly session urgently to discuss the present state of Goa during the pandemic. We are in a democratic country and we demand that an Assembly session be called to ensure that the Opposition gets the answers to their questions on the Government action plan to battle the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Opposition Leader Digambar Kamat said, “All members think that we should seek a white paper from the government, which needs to furnish all background present and future of the cases, on migrant workers and their condition and also on the COVID-19 funding received by the Government”.

“The government has declared a policy and said there are no test and quarantine charges. We hailed the decision, but later they said that seafarers are charged. Are they not Goans? There is a confused situation that has been created by constantly changing orders of the Government,” said charged.

“14,000 Bihar natives have registered, but not a single train has gone, no one knows how they are surviving. The government has to take a sympathetic stand towards the labourers. The area near the railway station shows how they are surviving,” he said.
