Congress demands probe into the beach cleaning contract

The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has demanded that
the Government must constitute an independent judicial inquiry to probe into
the beach cleaning contract to ensure the recovery of the money paid by virtue
of the said contract.

Addressing a press conference in the city GPCC Spokesperson
Yatish Naik said it is imperative that the State government having cancelled
the said beach cleaning contract in the background of the allegations and
complaints in regard to pending before the Lokayukta, the State Government is
duty bound to recover the money paid by virtue of the said contract.

Further, Naik said, apart from the complaints filed before
the Lokayukta by individuals, who are being adjudicated, by merely cancelling
the beach cleaning contract, which was also alleged as a scam, the State
government cannot absolve itself and rather the principals of accountability
mandates upon the state government to probe all procedures, contractual nuances
and financial aspects of the said contract through a independent judicial
inquiry.

“Till such probe is completed, it is imperative that the
chief minister divests the incumbent Tourism Minister of his portfolio, so as
to ensure a fair probe into the matter” said Naik

Further adding, if the government does not do anything at
its end to probe this beach cleaning contract, so as to fix responsibility and
ensure recovery of the money paid by virtue of this contract, it will be yet
another illustration of the incumbent state government’s policy of 100 percent
tolerance to corruption and mal administration.
