MARGAO: Alleging that the BJP governments both at the Centre and in the State are insensitive towards people sentiments, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar on Thursday demanded that the Goa government should come out with a relief scheme so that people can celebrate the Ganesh Chaturthi.

Addressing media persons at South Goa District Office, in the presence of GPCC vice president M K Shaikh, spokesperson Dr Ashish Kamat, SGDCC president Joe Dias and PCC secretary Everson Vale, he urged the BJP government to absorb the hike in prices of LPG, besides fuel prices and declare a relief scheme to the people.

“BJP governments at the Centre as well as the State are playing with the sentiments of the people by increasing prices of fuel and essential commodities. People are suffering because of the complete collapse of the economy due to the COVID pandemic and faulty policies of the BJP government, the recent price rise is adding to the common man’s burden “, the GPCC president claimed.

Girish said he is deeply saddened by the “cruel” act of the BJP government to increase the LPG cylinder prices by Rs 25 at a time when most Goans are preparing for Chaturthi. For the last 15 days, the LPG price has been increased by Rs 50.

He said on January 1, the price of LPG was Rs 710; prices increased 9 times which have soared to Rs 900. “This act of the BJP will never be pardoned,” he said.

On the alliance issue, Girish said, “The party High Command will decide on the same. The party is preparing to contest the elections in all 40 constituencies. We want to have an alliance with every Goan”.

Meanwhile, Chodankar announced a three-day time table of the visit of P Chidambaram to Goa.
