PANJIM: Amid heaps of criticism for being a feeble opposition over the last two and half years, Congress began beating its war drums with AICC general secretary in tow and announced that it would march to the State legislative assembly on July 22 to expose the misdeeds and non-functioning of the BJP government.
Announcing that this would be part of a series of agitations against the Manohar Parrikar-led government, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President John Fernandes told media persons on Saturday that the Congress led by All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Digvijay Singh would demonstrate outside the Goa assembly, while its MLAs would protest inside the House.
“A chargesheet against Manohar Parrikar government would be submitted to Goa Governor and legislative assembly Speaker on July 22,” Fernandes told media. For this a committee had been constituted to prepare the chargesheet against the government that will speak out against the misdeeds and non-functioning of the BJP government.
The party also announced that they would agitate against the Centre’s railway ticket price hike on July 7 across all the railway stations of the State with Fernandes saying that the agitation is planned considering on the day that Parliament would meet for the Budget session. The protest would be held at all seven railway stations-Panjim, Pernem, Tivim, Karmali, Vasco, Margao and Canacona.
“The protests will be peaceful. We will not be entering the railway property but will agitate at the main railway station gates. The trains would not be stopped as we don’t want to create inconvenience to passengers,” he added. The Congress has also planned agitation against irregular water and power supply in the State in mid-July.
Fernandes said that a candle light and torch light rally would be held in the city along with another rally where the agitators would be moving with empty water buckets. He said that public would be mobilized in large numbers.
