PANJIM: Alleging harassment by the police, the Congress party along with its ally Goa Forward Party (GFP) has petitioned Election Commission of India (ECI) seeking their intervention and necessary directions to the law and order enforcement agency.
In a joint letter addressed to the ECI, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) general secretary Sunil Kawthankar and GFP vice president Durgadas Kamat has alleged that the caretaker government headed by BJP MLA Dr Pramod Sawant has directed the Goa Police to harass the candidates of the Indian National Congress and GFP as well as other smaller parties.
The leaders said that elections must be free and fair and no party must be allowed to use government machinery during the Election Code of Conduct period to harass other candidates and gain an upper hand.
