MARGAO: Senior TMC leader and former Ponda MGP MLA Lavoo Mamledar, strongly criticised the manner in which the Congress exposes its double standards and hypocrisy over alliances. “This has made even their potential allies distrustful of them,” Mamledar said in a chat with Herald and reacted to news reports of a Congress worker’s meeting in Benaulim, where senior leader P Chidambaram said workers do not want any alliance.
Referring to Congress workers belonging to the Benaulim Block Congress Committee on Sunday saying they are against the party forming any alliance for the forthcoming State Assembly elections, Mamledar said, “P Chidambaram says one thing in one part of the State while Dinesh Gundu Rao (Desk in-charge) says something exactly the opposite somewhere else. One says the Congress is fighting in 40, the other says there is room to align with like-minded parties. Will anyone trust them?”
Chidambaram, himself admitted that there were two opinions in the party on this at the Benaulim workers meeting. “There are two opinions, but it is not something we should discuss in public, but we are getting battle-ready in all 40 constituencies. And if necessary, we will fight in all. But I want you (party workers) to be part of the decision-making process,” Chidambaram said.
Mamledar added, “People with self-respect have joined the TMC which takes everyone along who want to fight for a better Goa honestly. In politics, if you give mixed signals, especially to local and regional parties, you will lose political allies for life. That is the state of the Congress.”
