ALDONA: Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza Sunday stated that the Congress High Command has already conceded defeat in Goa and hence its supremo Sonia Gandhi has cancelled her visit.
Addressing a gathering at Aldona, D’Souza said that UPA president is well aware that the Congress will lose both its seats in Goa and hence it has decided to cancel her visit.
The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee said that the UPA chief has cancelled visit due to the cyclone in Satteri on Friday.
However, the deputy chief minister said it was all the more the reason for the Congress chief to come here and meet the affected people.
Continuing his tirade against the Congress over the secularism issue D’Souza said the country has several issues of border security, law and order, unemployment, slowing economy, falling rupee, but the Congress is just stuck to the issue of secularism.
“They say BJP is communal party but who has made them the custodians of secularism. We have six minority MLA’s in the party four independent minority MLA’s are supporting us. We don’t need to learn to how to safeguard the interests of the minorities,” he said.
“It is become the Congress’ nature to play divisive politics in the country as they know they have been exposed to the hilt due to the misdeeds of their ministers,” he said.
D’Souza also sought to draw comparison between the administration of erstwhile Congress government and the present BJP government in Goa saying “we have fulfilled 80 percent of our promises in the manifesto whereas the Congress has always disappointed people.”
He said the party does not believe in high command politics like the Congress. “We take our decisions here not in Delhi”, he said.
“There is nothing like high command it is all money making in the name of high command,” D’Souza stated.
Further, he stated, “on May 16, Modi will become the first OBC prime minister of India, for the first time in history a chaiwalla will become a PM because BJP does not believe in dynastic politics and big names.”
North Goa sitting MP Shripad Naik, who is seeking election for fourth time, criticised Congress candidate Ravi Naik for his role in the Drugs scam.
“Ravi is telling people I have not done anything for State in three terms. I don’t need to tell him what I have done my people know for themselves the works undertaken by me,” he said adding “however, maybe he does not know anything about my work as I was not involved in any scam like drugs. Even the house committee has named Ravi in the scam”.
“People know who was behind the drugs scam in the coastal belt but I have told the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar not to act on the report until elections as they will say it is an election stunt.”
“The Congress candidate says Shripad is a tree which gives no fruits but let me point out to him that Congress is a tree which gives poisonous fruits and if they get another chance it could prove fatal for the country,” he said.
Naik said that people of the country have given Congress over six decade to rule but it is time they gave the BJP one chance.
Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo and WRD Minister Dayanand Mandrekar were also present for the meeting.
