Congress hits back at BJP

Says it will make a strong comeback in 2017 Assembly polls

PANJIM: Facing criticism from the ruling BJP of shielding itself from the municipality elections fearing defeat, Congress on Monday announced it would make a strong comeback in the 2017 Assembly elections with a blend of experience and young leadership.
Addressing media persons, Congress spokespersons Agnelo Fernandes and Sunil Kawthankar slammed State BJP president Vinay Tendulkar for saying the party has stayed away from the municipal elections fearing defeat.
“It was our decision not to support the municipal election, after the government decided to hold ZP elections on party lines without consulting stakeholders including other political parties,” Fernandes said, adding that BJP’s failure to get a majority in the ZP elections, forced the government not to hold municipality election on party lines.
The former MLA said the BJP, before commenting on the Congress will have retrospect on the several U-turns the government made in the last three-and-half years on issues like casinos, special status and Regional Plan 2021.
Supporting him, Kawthankar said the Congress Party is aware of its strategies and will make a strong come back in the Assembly elections with a blend of experienced and young new leadership. “We will come before the public with a promise to give a strong government determined to eradicate corruption, moreover we will walk the talk unlike BJP who has fooled us all,” he said.
The Congress leader said it would be better if BJP leaders introspected on the party and the government, which has lost its head completely and failed miserably. Congress highlighted the failure of the government to appoint a Lokayukta, Chief Information Commissioner and State Information Commissioner.
