PANJIM: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) voiced its strong discontent on Tuesday against the ruling government’s handling of sound pollution in Anjuna, accusing the authorities of failing to enforce law and order. The party alleged that the Goa police are the main culprits.
Leader of the Opposition, Yuri Alemao, condemned the reckless sale of land and the destruction of the hinterland under the guise of promoting tourism. GPCC President Amit Patkar called for a clear-cut policy on playing music and also blamed the police for not taking action against violators.
GPCC Vice President Sunil Kawthankar stated that loud music in the coastal belt was not possible without the blessings of IAS and IPS officers and ruling party leaders. He claimed that Goan policemen were made scapegoats, as in the illegal house demolition episode in Assagao, where the alleged culprit was the then DGP.
Meanwhile, Goenchea Ramponkarancho Ekvott (GRE) General Secretary Olencio Simoes urged the Home Department to take precautionary measures to strengthen the coastal security of the state. He alleged that coastal security in the state had collapsed.
