PORVORIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday informed the House that the information provided by Congress MLAs that three trucks laden with fish entered Goa is false, as the empty containers were brought into the State in a bid to transport solar prawns, locally harvested, to Mangalore.
“Following allegation from Congress legislators yesterday (Tuesday), I sought detail report from the police. As per the report, three empty containers were parked near ice plant in Cuncolim. The containers came from Karnataka to Goa,” he said.
“The containers have come to transport solar prawns from Goa to Mangalore. These prawns are locally harvested by traditional method. The containers were checked at Polem check post and were found empty,” Chief Minister said.
However, Opposition MLA from Cuncolim Clafasio Dias demanded that a raid be conducted at the industrial estate to check the quality of fish.
To which, Chief Minister denied stating “I just can’t keep on raiding industries…we are conducting regular checks in the market’.
Speaker Dr Pramod Sawant warned the legislators not to misguide the House with lack of information. “Unless, there is truth in it, please do not raise the issue in the House and misguide the House,” he said.
Congress legislators on Tuesday had brought to the notice of the House that three trucks loaded with fish entered Goa from Karwar, despite government imposing ban on fish imports. They said that police refused to take action, after locals detained the trucks.
