Congress is united: GPCC

MARGAO: The Congress candidates who were staying together in a resort at Bambolim on Tuesday moved to another resort in Fatorda on Wednesday, on the eve of poll results day.

This was part of the Congress’ strategy to keep their flock together before and after the Assembly elections are announced and the party tries to form the next State government.

Speaking to the media persons, Congress leaders said they had gone to Bambolim first to celebrate Digambar Kamat’s birthday and now moved to Fatorda to celebrate Amit Patkar’s birthday.

However, it was later revealed that the candidates had come to the South to attend a meeting that was addressed by senior Congress leaders namely P Chidambaram. Goa Forward Party (GFP) candidates were also present for the same.

Sources said that Chidambaram’s advice was regarding the steps the Congress-GFP alliance will take once the election results are announced as part of their quest to stake claim to form the government no matter what the Opposition tries to do in any possible scenario.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar said, “The party is united and will dispel the notion that Congress candidates will leave the party and join the BJP and help them form the government.”
