PANJIM: A day after his arrest in an alleged extortion case, Congress leader Dharmesh Saglani was bailed out in what could be a setback for Crime Branch (CB) investigating the four-month old case.
The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court where Saglani had applied for bail, on Tuesday granted him conditional release. The JMFC directed him to be released on Rs 50,000 personal bond on two sureties of like amount along with other conditions such as not to tamper with the evidence/witness and to cooperate with the investigation team among others. He has been asked to report to the CB office at Ribandar for five days.
The CB had opposed his bail application while seeking his remand to carry on with the probe. On the other hand, Saglani denied allegations stating he was selectively targeted into the case.
Saglani, an arch rival of Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and who nearly defeated the CM in the just held Legislative Assembly elections, was arrested on Monday night. His arrest was pertaining to a complaint filed by one Ankit Jajodia, a native of Faridabad, alleging that Saglani and five others including bouncers wrongfully confined him for Rs 50 lakh ransom and threatened to kill him.
