PANJIM: Maharashtra Congress MLA Mohan Joshi is arriving in Goa on Monday, to finalise the party’s organisational elections.
Joshi, who has been appointed as Pradesh Returning Officer, will be accompanied by assistant returning officer Tanveer Khan from Rajasthan.
The duo will meet Congress office-bearers, presidents of Block and District Committees at the GCCI convention hall, Panjim at 3 pm on Monday.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar said that as the first step to the organisational elections, the ongoing digital membership enrollment drive will be completed by March 31. After this list of members will be published and elections will be held for booths, blocks, district, GPCC and AICC from April this year. The new GPCC president will be elected between July-August and the AICC between August-September this year.
Meanwhile, run up to the organisational polls, the GPCC on Sunday dissolved seven Block Congress Committees with immediate effect.
The party dissolved Tivim, Mayem, Priol, Shiroda, Vasco, Benaulim and Velim Block Committees. Some of these block committees were apparently ineffective and in few cases, the Blocks revolted and worked against the party’s official candidates during Assembly elections held a fortnight ago.
GPCC senior vice president M K Shaikh said that new Block Congress Committees will be constituted in consultation with the active workers of the respective blocks.
