MARGAO: Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco in a letter to Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant a copy of which is marked to Cooperation Minister Govind Gaude has drawn their attention to the scam in Satteri Urban Co-operative Credit Society wherein Rs 4 crore have been misused by the Managing Director of the society.
He lamented that even though more than 15 complaints have been filed before the Registrar of Co-operative Society no action has been taken as yet probably because the two directors of the society allegedly called on the chief minister asking him to stop the investigations.
While pointing out that the society has more than 150 persons directly or indirectly employed by it, Aleixo also disclosed that the society has been paying less than the normal interest to people having savings account with their branch.
He called for a thorough investigation in all the scams reported in credit societies including the Visionary Urban Co-operative Credit Society and Goa State Co-operative Bank and said the culprits have to be punished besides recovering the embezzled amount from them.
