PANJIM: The Jan Jagruti Padyatra of the Congress was launched on Tuesday after party leaders paid their respects at the Martyrs Memorial in Patradevi. The yatra started form Keri in Mandrem constituency which is represented by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar.
“We will go from North to South through 34 constituencies walking 262 kilometers with the people of Goa who need a change from this corrupt government. We want to take back Goa which was once the pride of the nation,” GPCC President Luizinho Faleiro said.
The padyatra was flagged off by Faleiro and Leader of the Opposition Pratapsingh Rane. It will be a symbolic campaign and will conclude on December 12 with a break on December 3 due to the Feast of St Francis Xavier.
Meanwhile, Faleiro said that going cashless in Goa will be inhuman and insensitive if the common people are affected.
“It is an inhuman and insensitive decision. The decision is going to affect the common man,” Faleiro said in Panjim.
He said Congress also did demonetisation but in a phased manner. “The ideal thing is to have a clear and clean economy. When you take decisions it should not affect the common and poor people,” Faleiro said.
He said that AICC President Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh initiated the concept of Unique Identification Card (UIC) to empower the citizens of the country.
