PANJIM: The Congress party high command which has recently revamped its central organisational structure may spring a big surprise in Goa for a change in not only the leadership of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) leadership but the Congress legislature party (CLP) leadership as well.
Party bigwigs are toying with the option of having two new heads, one each for the state Pradesh wing and the legislative wing with the name of Mauvin Godinho as forerunner for CLP leadership and Vishwajeet Rane as GPCC chief.
Top sources in the party have disclosed that the name of Dabolim legislator Godinho has emerged for the CLP leadership as he had been shortlisted earlier for the post of GPCC chief but is not interested in the same.
While there were reports that former Curchorem legislator Domnic Fernandes has been shortlisted, complaints had gone to the party’s central leaders against his appointment as GPCC chief.
The high command has, however, not shunned the idea of appointing a new GPCC chief at the earliest while keeping the options open of having someone from the Catholic minority community.
In case the option of change of CLP is kept on hold, sources say that Curtorim legislator Alex Reginald Lourenco is the forerunner for the GPCC chief followed by Luis Alex Cardozo, the former Congress legislator of Fatorda.
Interesingly, the name of Ramakant Khalap has also emerged, said a close source in the Congress. In the meantime the hunt for a Mahila Congress chief is also on and names of Dr Pramod Salgaonkar, Pratima Coutinho and Valanka Alemao are on the list.
Also, word is going round that Churchill Alemao’s son Savio is eyeing the top post in Goa Pradesh Youth Congress which will be holding elections in the near future.
The new appointed general secretary in-charge of Goa Digvijay Singh has been in touch with party members in Goa. A visit from Singh is on the cards. However no date has been fixed yet.
