Congress says BJP’s failure to implement new Land Acquisition Act hurts Mopa farmers

Congress also hit out at the chief minister saying while he plants one tree on world environment day he allows the cutting of thousands of trees

Congress has hit out at the Goa BJP govt for failure to implement the Government of India’s Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, since it is hurting Mopa farmers whose lands are being acquired.

Presently farmers are only getting Rs 40 per square meter. If the new land acquisition law was implemented they would get three to four times more compensation, the party said. It also said that govt lawyers are opposing any fair compensation since they have instructions from above. The party also said that they should compensate for the cutting of a tree according to the 40-year yield
