PANJIM: Congress has sought Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s intervention in the malpractices of the Power Department in the billing process.
North Goa District Committee President Vijay Bhike in a letter to the Chief Minister said that consumers are charged as against the reading of the meter. He alleged that the department takes the meter reading post the bill date, in order to ensure that consumers are covered under a higher slab instead of a lower slab rate.
“Every consumer ends up paying extra to the department against their respective units consumed. This is a huge loot of the consumers by the department and is a malpractice perpetrated intentionally,” Bhike charged.
He further alleged that the malpractice creates surplus revenue earned, against the purchase or supply of a certain quantity of electricity supply by the State. “This difference in expenditure and revenue goes unaccounted and is a big scam and fraud on the State,” Congress leader said.
