PANJIM: The opposition Congress and its frontal organisations on Monday staged protest against the Modi government over the Adani Group controversy alleging financial irregularities and market manipulation.
The Congress members holding placards held demonstrations outside LIC head office at Patto-Panjim and SBI, Margao branch, in response to the nationwide protest call given by All India Congress Committee (AICC) demanding fair probe and accountability in the alleged scam.
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao demanded thorough discussion in Parliament and to constitute a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) or a Supreme Court monitored investigation into the Hindenburg Research report alleging that the Adani Group had involved in accounting fraud and engaged in stock manipulation and how hard earned money of common man invested in LIC and SBI was at stake.
The protestors gave slogans and said that the silence of the Modi government was an indication of the seriousness in the issue.
Speaking to reporters at Margao, Savio D’Silva said that the money in LIC and SBI are of common man and the capitalist like Adani Group are looting this money.
“What is shocking is that the BJP government is observed helping such type of fraud capitalists in the country and making the common man suffer,” he alleged.
He said, “This demonstration is to condemn what is going on in the country with regard to financial scams and to make people aware of the situation.”
Moreno Rebello said that all the major projects are given to Adani Group; however, this company is crashing financially on every passing day. There is no transparency in the dealing of the Adani Company.
“Time has come to be cautious and united against the projects brought in by the Adani Group. We are in the forefront to fight for the people of Goa and the country,” he stated.
