PANJIM: The Congress on Thursday staged a protest in front of Enforcement Directorate (ED) Office in the city calling for the resignation of SEBI Chief Madhabi Buch and formation of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to investigated the Adani matter.
The Congress leaders comprising Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Amit Patkar, Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress President Beena Naik, among others, raised slogans against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government at the Centre.
Speaking to reporters, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao said, “The BJP government is promoting crony capitalism. The Adani connection is deep in Goa as well. We staged protest against coal and double tracking of railway but nothing happened. Today Adani Group owns port, airports and even BJP government is surviving because of it.”
“The recent expose by Hindenburg Research of offshore accounts shows how those who promised of ‘Acche Din’ are looting money of poor. The Supreme Court committee has exposed that the company was given relaxation by Security and Exchange Board of India in 2018 and 2019 to protect it. It is shocking that SEBI, which is a regulatory body, itself is in a questionable position,” he said.
Goa Congress President Amit Patkar alleged that 96 per cent of the shares are in the Adani Group are owned its promoters which is against rules as it gives them power of manipulation.
