PANJIM: The Congress party on Tuesday swore by Rahul Gandhi as the next Prime Minister asking all its workers to pull up their sleeves and work for victory in 2019 election.
Ahead of upcoming by-elections in Shiroda and Mandrem Assembly constituency, followed by Lok Sabha elections, the party launched ‘Jan Sampark Abhiyan’, its nationwide campaign against Narendra Modi led government. The campaign aims at connecting people by exposing Modi and Manohar Parrikar led State government and also to rise funds.
The newly appointed State Executive Committee held its first meeting on Tuesday. All India Congress Committee Secretary and Goa desk in-charge A Chellakumar, State president Girish Chodankar, Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar and all MLAs presided over the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, Chellakumar said the Party’s National President Rahul Gandhi already had talks with booth and block level workers from Telangana and Karnataka. “Very soon we can expect that in Goa. Already he had spoken to Pradesh Congress Committee president Girish Chodankar,” he said.
“If you want to see Congress president Rahul Gandhi as prime minister then visit each constituency and get in touch with the people. We must ensure Congress government at the centre to root out BJP and to uplift the secular principles of the country,” he said.
“My appeal to people of Goa not to waste your vote by not voting for Congress in defeating BJP,” Chellakumar said adding “Congress is the only party who are protectors of minorities”.
Post meeting, party launched its “Jan Sampark Abhiyaan”, which they intend to make it an annual event to keep themselves connected with the public. The party has released a charge sheet against Modi and Parrikar led government exposing their failures and misdeeds. The booth level workers are entrusted with the task of visiting each household with the charge sheet.
Modi government is exposed over its failure to bring back black money and deposit Rs 15 lakh in the accounts of people, rafale scam, demonetization, GST, ailing Maa Ganga, Make India a ‘flop jumla’, , farmers suicide, etc.
On the other hand, Congress has questioned Parrikar government failure to resume mining activities, resolving the formalin issue, scams in the name of PDA, regional plan, IPB, MOI, non removal of casinos from river mandovi, Mhadei dispute, beach cleaning scam, etc.
Speaking on the occasion, Chellakumar said that this ia a unique programme of congress party to establish contact with each and every household of the country. “We want to bring to the people notice how the BJP government at the State and Centre fooled them and looted them in the name of development,” he stated.
He said the workers will undertake door-to-door campaign in both the Lok Sabha constituencies. During their visit, they will carry a letter written by party’s National President, especially to the first-time voters.
“ Door to door you have to go and establish contact at the grass root and at the same time distribute material,” he said.
Chellakumar said that a separate committee for Jan Sampark Abhiyaan will be selected in each of the constituency which will work parallel to the Block Level Committee in each of the Assembly Constituency.
The party has also decided to appoint their prominent workers as ‘Sahayogis’ who will be connecting the voters to the party organization. Chellakumar said that Sahayogi will be a bridge between party high command and the households.
“Each Sahayogi will have 30-35 houses under his ambit. The interest of Sahayogi will be to look after the interest of those living in these houses. He will be responsible for those houses,” he said.
Party president Girish Chodankar said that the programme gives an opportunity to Congress to again rebuild people’s confidence in the party and ensure its victory during by-elections and Lok Sabha polls.
