CANACONA: Congress workers in Canacona want have called upon GPCC president Luizinho Faleiro to use his experience to bring a Congress government back in the saddle in 2017, even as high ranking congress party functionaries anticipate assembly elections one year ahead of time.
‘Given the bickering in BJP, I have no doubt that assembly elections will be very much a reality in 2016 itself, as the government headed by Laxmikant Parsekar has no credibility to rule until 2017. Elections will be called in 2016 itself,’ declared GPCC Vice President Moti Dessai in the Canacona Congress block meeting held on Saturday. GPCC President Luizinho Faleiro and All India Congress Party Secretary Girish Chodankar were present. Congress leader and Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco took a dig at the BJP ruling party saying that this government has raised fees for the common man and has even gone all out and charged for forms, which were earlier provided free of cost in government offices.
Former Poinguinim ZP member, Daya Pagui, Block President Elvis Fernandes, GPCC Executive member Janardhan Bhandari, GPCC Secretary Madhav Dessai, senior Congress leader Rajendra Dessai, in their speeches called on Faleiro to guide the workers to wrest back the mandate for Congress in the 2017 assembly elections. Saying that more than 80 per cent electorate in Canacona constituency is against the BJP – an indication given in the last zilla panchayat elections), Fernandes in his opening remarks said, “Guide us not to make the same mistakes we did in 2012 assembly elections. There was dissent and there was diversity. We need unity and we want Congress leaders and workers to work for the party and not the party contestant.”
Faleiro, correcting the speakers that he got five Congress governments installed during the role as central leader in Congress party including in Karnataka, asked workers to bury the personnel differences for the sake of the party. Visit, meet and understand people’s problems/issues. He sought forgiveness for the past failures of the Congress governments. Faleiro said, “This (BJP) government is stepping on the stomachs of many, and dividing people on politics. BJP affiliated leaders Sadhvi Prachi Arya (VHP), Mohan Bhagwat (RSS chief) has shamelessly spoken against the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and Mother Teresa, without any remorse.”
‘If people with such an ideology are allowed to govern, our State of Goa will soon be history. It is for this very reason that the Congress by all means has to make a comeback, and party workers should not be in any doubt that elections of 2017 is the time.”
Earlier, senior local Congress leader and former CMC Chairperson Rajendra Dessaisaid 50 per cent youth should be enrolled, while old-guards should be considered for guidance.
