Congressmen with ill-gotten cash out to get me: John

PANJIM: The under fire Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president John Fernandes, digging in his heels, hit back at his detractors saying that some Congressmen with ill-gotten money wanted to dislodge him.

The GPCC executive committee also unanimously resolved to appraise the Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi that the “Congress party in Goa under the present leadership is involved in doing excellent work as a cohesive group despite stiff resistance from within to clean the party of tainted, corrupt, habitual defectors and promoters of family raj.”
The meeting requested the high command to lend all support to the present leadership to clean the party in Goa and set it in order as “it had become a cess pool of corrupt and habitual defectors.”
Fernandes too spoke to the press and said that as of today, he was still the president, rejecting reports that appeared in a local daily that he was sacked.
“I am not here to stay permanently…I will have to go some point and someone will replace me. But till then I will work as per the party’s constitution,” Fernandes said, alleging that some “Congressmen with ill-gotten money were out to dislodge him.” He also denied having any differences with any party leaders.
The Congress executive committee, chaired by vice president Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco extended its full support to Fernandes. The executive committee that met on Monday, resolved to apprise the AICC president and vice president that present state party leadership is doing excellent job as a cohesive group despite stiff resistance within Meanwhile, Fernandes accused some the ‘corrupt” leaders of releasing the newspaper advertisements against him, using their ill gotten money. “I don’t want to name anyone but yes some people are involved in it,” he said when asked whether leader of Opposition Pratapsing Rane and his son Vishwajit were behind releasing news about him being sacked from president’s post.
Referring to AICC secretary Chella Kumar statement to Herald, Fernandes said “I am not here to listen to unwanted comments from high command juniors.” He said that AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh would be contacted for necessary action against him (Kumar). Kumar had told Herald that there is no place for ego politics and high command will soon take a call on GPCC chief.
