PANJIM: Goencho Avaaz, in a press release, said “they will not forgive the Congress for giving them false assurances and giving Goa incompetent candidates.”
Goencho Avaaz and other social activists and groups from across Goa had met Rahul Gandhi last week in the hope that the Congress would be serious about addressing the issues raised by the respective groups.
However, after the release of the probable/shortlisted Congress candidates for the Lok Sabha seats in North and South Goa districts, it appears that the Congress in the State “is out of sync with their National President,” the release added.
“The candidates in the list with the exception of Girish Chodankar have not done any grassroot work for Goa and neither have they taken up any other local issues such as unemployment, regional plan, coal, sagarmala, TDR etc which pose a serious threat to Goa and Goans,” the release claims.
Goencho Avaaz co-convenors Capt. Viriato Fernandes and Swapnesh Sherlekar say that “it is unlikely that they will take up the issues in the future if such shortlisted candidates are ever elected.”
The press release claims they believe “some of the candidates are promoted by regional parties and directly linked with other national parties.”
“The choice of Lok Sabha candidates will not just impact the LS elections but will also impact the three assembly constituencies since their constituencies have no clear frontrunner,” the release said in conclusion.
