PONDA: The Ponda Police on Thursday arrested constable Vijay Gaunekar, 28, a resident of Pansulem-Pilliem, Dharbandora on the charge of allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl from Ponda taluka.
The constable was arrested following a complaint lodged by the victim’s father. In his complaint, the girl’s father stated in July the accused took his daughter to Farmagudi and sexually assaulted her.
The police stated that the accused allegedly continued with his sexual assaults and kept abusing the minor on several occasions.
The accused threatened her with dire consequences and even told her that he will kill her parents if she dare open her mouth.
Police sources revealed that the same cop had allegedly sexually abused another victim in Ponda but the case was not reported to the police. The accused was posted at the South Goa Police Headquarters, Margao and was supposed to get married soon.
The Ponda Police have registered a case against Gaunekar under Sections 376, 506 (II) of IPC, Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act, 2003 and Sections 4 and 8 of POCSO Act.
