The synthetic stimulant drug of the amphetamine and cathinone classes, which goes by the street name ‘meow meow’ or ‘MD’, weighing 100 kg, was reportedly being packaged, to transfer it to a safe hide out, probably Goa, after the drug was banned in Maharashtra.
Goa Police’s anti narcotics cell (ANC), however, denied receiving inputs about the consignment’s probable delivery to any person in Goa. “When any intelligence is shared with us in this regard, we will definitely probe it,” Superintendent of Police Karthik Kashyap said.
Satara Superintendent of Police Abhinav Deshmukh had told Mumbai journalists that the constable was working as a drug peddler and that a larger nexus involved in it is being investigated.
The Goa ANC had made its biggest ever seizure with the arrest of a Irish national Gary Baird who was caught with 4.14 kg of ‘meow’ worth Rs 2.05 crore at Sinquerim on October 15-16, 2013.
The white crystallised powder, also sold in tablet form can be injected, inhaled or orally consumed. Mephedrone or meow, is also known as “drone” and “MCAT”.
