ARAMBOL: Locals and businessmen in Arambol have expressed annoyance over the frequent power cuts. Since the temperature is on rise and tourist season is still ongoing, traders have claimed that they have to face losses due to power shortage.
“Recently, there was a one hour power cut at around 10 in the night. This disrupts the sleep of the locals,” said Yashwant Harmalkar.
“The businessmen sometimes have to shut down their shops early due to lack of electricity. Not all the shop owners have generators, so they have to carry out their operations in the dark,” said a local businessman Sushant Parab.
When contacted, officials from the divisional electricity office informed that a jumper wire at Suke Kulan got exposed and there was no other option than to shut down both the feeders to repair the line.
Meanwhile, the hike in power tariff is on the cards and customers have accused the government of being partial towards big companies by rolling out schemes such as One Time Settlement (OTS) scheme for them. Meanwhile, the work for an independent power sub-station for Mandrem Constituency is currently underway at Junaswada and locals have expressed hope of becoming operational before the monsoon arrives.
