VEREM: With taps running dry for the last few days, the agitated villagers of Verem, Reis Magos, Nerul and Pilerne on Thursday demanded with Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar that the problem solved immediately.
The villagers met Salgaonkar at his Saligao office and complained that for the last few days they have not been receiving adequate water supply.
The Executive Engineer (water supply) was grilled by the locals as well as the MLA over the irregular water supply. Nerul Sarpanch Piedade Almeida alleged that the PWD department was trying to harass the people by providing them irregular water supply.
The MLA also questioned the executive engineer as to how the neighbouring area was receiving adequate water supply and only Reis Magos and Verem are suffering from water shortage.
Replying to the query, the executive engineer said that shortage of water was due to inadequate power supply and also due to the damage of the pumps at Assonora which took place earlier.
He assured the locals and the MLA that the problem would be solved at the earliest. “We are in the process of changing the pumps at Verem and have prepared an estimate as well,” he said.
