PANJIM: High Court of Bombay at Goa has directed that a 4-member committee under the Block Development Officer (BDO) be constituted to ensure implementation of stop work and no commercial activities order issued by the Anjuna Panchayat to 26 structures, which were found to be in violation of No Development Zone (NDZ) guidelines.
The committee will comprise of BDO, Police, Sarpanch and Panchayat Secretary. Panchayat on Tuesday produced before the court the order issued by them. Panchayat has issued stop work order to the ongoing constructions and ordered that commercial activity should not be carried out in structures that are already completed. The four-member committee will look into the implementation of these orders by the Panchayat.
Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) and Anjuna Panchayat had carried out joint inspection and identified 271 prima facie illegal structures on Anjuna beach stretch. “Separate order will be issued in each of the cases after studying the matters individually,” Attorney General Devidas Pangam informed.
HC has also asked the panchayat to take action on illegal shacks that have come up on the beach sans Tourism Department permissions. The Court was hearing a suo motu public interest litigation (PIL) against illegal constructions along the beach belt.
