PANJIM: Trajano D’Mello, the main petitioner in the Serula land grabbing case on Tuesday demanded the BJP government to set up a special fast-track court to expedite probe of land grab chargesheets filed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT). The government must also ensure that the investigation is time-bound to do justice to those duped off of their land, he said.
Pointing to delay of five years to demolish illegal building built in the Serula Communidade land, Trajano said that that the ongoing investigations into land grabbings should be time-bound case-to-case basis. All these land grabbing cases should be fast tracked and supervised by a retired judge so that people who have been defrauded get justice.
Highlighting the failure of the BJP-led government to formulate a comprehensive mandate of the SIT panel, Trajano said, “On June 15, 2022, the government constituted an SIT through an order which states that terms of reference will be issued separately. This itself shows how confused the government is. They are fooling the people and fraud-related arrests are nothing but a smoke screen. Where is the document containing the terms of reference for the SIT?”, he asked.
