Following inspection, the panchayat will issue a show cause notice to the proprietor asking why the structure should not be demolished

PANJIM: The Se Old Goa Panchayat carried out a joint inspection of the construction which has come up in a protected area and heritage zone of the village on Thursday.

Following the inspection, the panchayat will issue a show cause notice to the proprietor asking why the structure should not be demolished.

Speaking to the media persons after the inspection, Sarpanch Janita Madkaikar said that an emergency panchayat body meeting will be convened within the next five days where the findings of the inspection will be put forward. At the inspection, the measurements of the structure were taken and signatures for the panchanama were also obtained. Sarpanch Janita explained that the inspection was part of the legal procedure as per the Panchayat Act to carry out demolition proceedings of the structure, which has already been deemed as illegal as the construction licence has been revoked.

The inspection is also expected to cover other technical allegations about the structure.

Sarpanch Janita added that after the panchayat meeting, another notice will be issued to the proprietor and that the end result of all above actions taken by the panchayat so far are towards demolition of the structure.

It is to be noted that a representative of the party involved with the construction project was present. The panch members said the party had tried to get the inspection postponed on the grounds of the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic third wave but that the panchayat insisted that the inspection be held on Thursday itself.

Representatives of the complainant, the citizens who have been protesting since November as well as representatives of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) such as Adv Amit Palekar and Trinamool Congress (TMC) such as former MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, were present for the inspection.

Besides the police, no other representatives from the government departments concerned were present although they had been called for the joint inspection.
