PORVORIM: Nerul residents have demanded the arrest of the miscreants who demolished the old Ghumti of Kalimata Devi near the village crematorium. On Thursday, they gathered at the site and began to reconstruct the Ghumti, despite government officials requesting them to stop.
On learning of the assembly, Bardez Deputy Collector Pundalik Khorjuverkar, Mamlatdar Madhu Narvekar and police rushed to the site. Saligao MLA Dilip Parulekar also dropped by later and tried to pacify the villagers. He assured them that he would take up the matter with the chief minister. Khorjuverkar later requested them to send a five-person delegation to Mapusa to discuss the issue with him.
Meanwhile, the convener of the Nerul Nagrik Kruti Samiti stated that the comunidade could not sell vast tracks of land to educational institutions
