MARGAO: Acting swiftly Chandor Cavorim Village Panchayat Sarpanch Edward D’Silva stopped the construction of an illegal house, at Bindimol in Cavorim and ordered the owner of the land to demolish the room under construction.
It was indeed a stroke of luck that the panchayat discovered the illegal construction as they had just gone to prepare a panchanama.
Two persons from Uttar Pradesh namely Ram Bihari and Raj Kumar Sharma have purchased two plots of land in the actual land-locked area and were in the process of constructing houses after constructing retaining wall.
While Ram has constructed a retaining wall encroaching onto the natural creek Raj Kumar had started the work of constructing a room on Monday.
Incidentally, Ram purchased 210 sq mts of land paying Rs 7 lakh while Raj Kumar purchased 260 sq mts paying Rs 7.10 lakh.
The sarpanch who was accompanied by the panchayat secretary, ward member and a few villagers immediately directed Raj Kumar to not only stop the work as no permission was sought from the panchayat and also got the constructed walks demolished immediately.
The sarpanch called the flying squad that arrived in the afternoon and said they will initiate another proceeding against the violator as one proceeding is already underway following an inspection on February 4, where the illegal walls constructed were noted.
In fact, the flying squad also enquired whether the road leading to the properties was given any permission or licence by the panchayat and the sarpanch said that too was illegal as the panchayat has not issued any licence for construction of the road.
It appears that the existence of the road is helping the migrants carry on their illegal construction. Pobrino Luis, who constructed the road, informed that he did the road as their property has been divided amongst the family following an inventory proceeding.
